Cody Rhodes’ Surprising Move in Press Conference Before WWE Backlash Made Brandi Rhodes Jealous: “Puerto Rico, Y’all Must Be Special”

Cody Rhodes is riding a wave of popularity since his comeback to the WWE in 2022. While the company’s number one babyface suffered a health scare shortly after his return, Rhodes’ run has been nothing short of phenomenal ever since his second comeback at the Royal Rumble in January. The American Nightmare will take on Brock Lesnar at WWE Backlash on May 6 in Puerto Rico as he continues his storied run so far.

Rhodes attended the customary media conference a day prior to his bout and left his wife, Brandi, jealous with an unexpected gesture.

What did Rhodes do at the press conference?

Brandi and Cody Rhodes are celebrating the 10th year of their marriage anniversary. The duo has been through thick and thin. When Rhodes left the WWE in 2016, Brandi, then an employee of the Stamford-based promotion, requested her release soon after. The couple has been together during their run in the independent circuit and later on in the AEW. They have a daughter together. Yet, Cody’s move at Puerto Rico was nothing she ever expected.

Appearing alongside Triple H, Dusty Rhodes’ younger son acknowledged the fans as they sang his theme song. He then proceeded to ask them, “De qué quieres hablar” which is the Spanish for his signature “What do you wanna talk about?” phrase.

This left Brandi surprised and jealous at the same time, as she tweeted that Puerto Rico must be special for her man to speak Spanish.

Earlier this year, Rhodes publicly announced himself as half Cuban- from his mother’s side. He said he was shy to share it earlier after an unfavorable incident.

Meanwhile, Rhodes may have wooed the crowd in Puerto Rico, but he still has a ‘beast’ to tame on Saturday.

How did the Cody Rhodes-Brock Lesnar rivalry start?

Ever since Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, he challenged Roman Reigns for the latter’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. In the months leading up to WrestleMania 39, Rhodes and Reigns cut some memorable promos as they enthralled the WWE Universe with their mic skills.

Rhodes was set to finish his story by becoming the first member of his family- which includes his legendary father, the deceased Dusty Rhodes, and brother Goldust- to win the WWE Championship. On the other hand, Reigns wanted to bolster his reign as the most prolific champion in the last decade. The motives were clear, and it made for an interesting match. When the two clashed at the SoFi Stadium on April 2, Reigns had the last laugh.

The following night at Raw, Rhodes challenged Reigns, but for a tag match. In the absence of a partner, Brock Lesnar, who walked out, much to everyone’s surprise, offered The Prince Of Pro Wrestling his hand. This set up a tag team match between Cody Rhodes-Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns-Solo Sikoa. However, even before the match started, The American Nightmare was attacked ruthlessly by The Beast Incarnate, kick-starting their rivalry.

In the weeks following the brutal backstabbing, Rhodes and Lesnar have traded blows a couple of times. It is set to reach its climax at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot arena later today.
