Did Cody Rhodes just rip off CM Punk and AJ Lee's movie scene? Where's the originality in WWE?

Referencing in the pro wrestling world isn’t a new thing. Cody Rhodes was also recently featured in a promo for WWE that slightly referenced a movie that had CM Punk in it. While WWE doesn’t clearly give a nod to the scene, and you will soon understand why, it seems to have certain elements that may remind you of the movie.

If you are following WWE closely or even sparingly nowadays, you would know that they are heavily promoting Bad Blood PLE which will take place in October. To promote this returning classic, Cody Rhodes was featured in a video that seems to give us a glimpse of the Hollywood movie Rabid.

The American horror film from 2019, Rabid, included a scene in which CM Punk was featured alongside his wife AJ Lee. She wears a blonde wig and enters Punk’s car along with him while he is in the driver’s seat. Although the following scene isn’t pleasant to watch, the camera setting and the tone of the scene are similar to the Bad Blood promo.

In the said video, Cody Rhodes is seated in the driver’s seat alongside the songwriter Metro Boomin. His latest singles are playing on the stereo called GTA. The angle on Cody Rhodes, and the lighting is similar to that of the Hollywood scene that we just discussed.

These two pictures found side by side on a subreddit put things into perspective for us. Despite the drastic difference in the context of these videos, by the looks of it, one would think that Cody Rhodes has copied the original scene from Rabid.

Amidst all the Bad Blood promotion, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and instead focus on what the near future holds for us.

What will Cody Rhodes and CM Punk do at the next PLE?

Bash in Berlin is only two weeks away, and the promotion seems to be preparing for it already. The PLE in Europe will take place on the 31st of August, slightly more than a month before WWE Bad Blood. Cody Rhodes is all set to defend his title against Kevin Owens in Berlin for the day. Since The American Nightmare is highly unlikely to lose against his former companion, it is CM Punk who fans should instead shift their attention to. The wrestler is going to face Drew McIntyre yet again at BIB, but this time, there may be a brutal twist waiting for us to discover.

The Scottish Warrior has been trying to get his hands on Punk for a long time now. At SummerSlam, he finally defeated the Best in the World. However, the latter is still not done with his rival because he looks forward to making a statement against him for talking ill of his wife and dog. According to a former WWE superstar, this may be their final confrontation because the leading wrestling promotion has already teased a ‘strap match’ for the event. While the Second City Saint isn’t a force to meddle with, McIntyre also has experience in strap matches.

The near future seems exciting. Shortly after that, the buildup to WWE Bad Blood will start, which will take place in Atlanta. Who knows how many references we will pick along the way.
