Dwayne Johnson and Cody Rhodes‘ feud started because of the online fan outrage when the former was hijacking WrestleMania XL’s main event. This rivalry built up between the two was independent of the Undisputed Universal Championship. There were several promos where Johnson breached the TV-PG rating guidelines. However, that wasn’t the only line that he stepped over.
Months after their feud, The American Nightmare revealed where he thinks The Rock went a little overboard than he needed to just for the sake of their kayfabe animosity.

The entire feud began when Rhodes called out Roman Reigns for not facing him face-to-face and that the elders of his family, who are legends of the wrestling universe, would not appreciate it. This fired up The Rock since he is also Reigns’ family member. Thus began a war between The Brahma Bull and his most recent target, in which the WWE legend took shots at his family.
He brought up and featured Mama Rhodes on camera several times, but this wasn’t where Rhodes thought he crossed the line because she is part of a wrestling family. Instead, while speaking on the ‘Insight with Chris Van Vliet’ podcast, The American Nightmare revealed, “The only line that I think he [The Rock] crossed was he made my sister Teil non-canon.”
“He mentioned that I had two other siblings and that being Dustin and Kristin who are from my dad’s first marriage. Which is, you’re not wrong, we do have them. This is when he called me a ‘mistake’ but he made Teil non-canon. And Teil is the closest I have as my original best friend, you know, so that was a little– I felt bad. I felt bad for her,” Rhodes added.
Despite ‘crossing the line’ with Cody Rhodes during the Mania feud, the storyline was still a success. Because of this, fans have been waiting for the “Final Boss” to come back to the Stamford-based company. However, this time around, he may be coming for the throne.

Will Dwayne Johnson be back for The Bloodline?
Roman Reigns has officially lost control of The Bloodline, meaning that he is no longer The Tribal Chief. However, fans of the promotion have been speculating online that he will take the fight to the rogue members and win control over the family stable again. It could take several weeks or months to do so, but we might be able to see that happen.
This could result in DJ coming back to WWE to finish what he intends to, battling for a spot at the Head of the Table of the Anoa’i family stable. Additionally, he is also expected to come after Cody Rhodes again, given their final interaction on Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania XL.

However, we would have to wait and see whether he will come back for a match or not as a former WWE employee revealed that there is only one man who can make these feuds happen. Jim Ross spoke about the possibility during the Grilling JR Podcast saying, “There’s a chance it’s all up to the rock. It’s not up to anybody else. It’s up to him. And if he, you know, his schedule is so crazy and he can’t afford to get hurt, he’s going to lose millions of dollars.”
Even if we don’t see the multiple-time WWE Champion wrestle in the ring again, he will surely be able to cross a line or two to keep things exciting among fans. Were you a fan of The Rock and Cody Rhodes’ feud during the Mania 40 season? Let us know in the comments.
