Roman Reigns returned at SummerSlam as the OTC (Original Tribal Chief), but unlike other times where he laid out everyone in the ring, he helped Cody Rhodes retain his title. This is the same title that Rhodes won off Reigns at WrestleMania 40, ending his four-year-long reign. While this was done to ensure Solo Sikoa didn’t get the title to take to The Bloodline 2.0, Reigns is a babyface now.

After playing the heel on SmackDown for four long years, the Original Tribal Chief is now a good guy on the show with WWE’s biggest babyface. So, is Rhodes going full Homelander and turning heel? The Rhodes heel turn is shaping up to be the next John Cena heel turn. Fans want this, but the WWE is hesitant to deliver it.

As a babyface, Rhodes carried an entire storyline from his loss to Reigns at Mania 39 to Mania 40 and beyond. The fans love him and he is one of the most over-stars in the company. However, from time to time, Rhodes shows shades of his heel self in AEW.

During the post-show press conference, Rhodes was asked this question. He did give an update on his possible heel turn, and much to fans’ disappointment, he will not be turning heel. Rhodes said, “Not flinching.” This means that Rhodes is not turning heel and has no issue with Reigns being the next top babyface.

There could be a possible team-up between the two against The Bloodline 2.0. It is clear that Sikoa has the numbers game on his side, and Reigns may need all the help he can get till Jey Uso returns to the fold. While the two have had a year-long feud, Rhodes and Reigns are now against a common enemy. Nevertheless, there is a deeper reason as to why the Stamford-based promotion won’t turn the American Nightmare heel.

Why won’t the WWE turn Cody Rhodes heel?

While Vince McMahon didn’t allow Cena to turn heel, the issue is still the same in Cody Rhodes’ case. He makes a great babyface. Despite fans loving the American Nightmare as a heel in AEW, things work differently in WWE. Creative could flip the switch and make Rhodes a bad guy, but the company would want a compelling storyline to fit the heel turn. While many fans speculate it could be against Reigns, who is now a babyface, Rhodes’ words have cleared that up.

While there are a plethora of storylines where Rhodes could easily play the villain, he has unfinished work with Dwayne Johnson. The Rock is among the biggest heels of 2024, and his feud with the WWE Universal champion will only continue near the end of this year or next year. During that time, turning Rhodes’ heel would not make sense. What do you think about Rhodes not turning heel? Tell us in the comments.
