Cody Rhodes has successfully defended his Undisputed Universal title against the challengers for two months. Although there has only been one big threat to his title up to this point, the road that lies ahead won’t be easy. Recently we have witnessed the development of a new potential storyline that will see Cody Rhodes face another strong challenger during his title run.

Drew McIntyre might be a possible challenger for Rhodes as he seems a little desperate after winning and losing the World Heavyweight Championship within minutes at Wrestlemania XL. After beating Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania, McIntyre started mocking the guest commentator CM Punk which allowed Mr. “Money in the Bank” Damian Priest to attack the Scot and take the title away. Now McIntyre might be eyeing an even bigger title.

The WWE Undisputed Universal Champion recently uploaded a picture on his Instagram story. He did not share any context behind it, but in the image, he can be seen standing in the ring alongside Drew McIntyre, both holding up the Tag Team Championship high in the air.

McIntyre was also in the WWE headquarters a few days ago, checking out the new decorations. He eventually went up to the wall of champions, reacting to every other wrestler. When he reached the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion, McIntyre said, “Cody, I’ll see you down the line,” with serious facial expressions.

Both these things happened only a few days apart, so one may assume that these could be interconnected. Although there is no confirmation of the feud yet, considering the history of these two wrestlers in the Stamford-based company, the fans may be invested in this potential storyline. But for now, AJ Styles is the rival that Rhodes needs to worry about because he hasn’t had enough and wishes to bring the gold home.

During one of the recent SmackDown shows, AJ Styles faked a retirement speech to get Cody Rhodes in the ring. As Rhodes acknowledged Styles’ career and achievements by raising his hand to the crowd, Styles attacked him brutally and threw him out of the ring before walking away. While the good thing was that Styles did not retire that day, it’s possible that his final match could take place during the Clash At The Castle PLE this weekend.

It was not the first attempt by AJ Styles to bag the Undisputed Title. He was, in fact, the first challenger to Rhodes’ Undisputed Universal title in May, but was beaten comprehensively at WWE Backlash France. Now another failure in Scotland might lead to Styles’ retirement. This may also help WWE begin a new feud with Drew McIntyre trying to get the title from Cody Rhodes.
