Cody Rhodes’ 9-Year-Old Money in The Bank Match Still Bothers Ryback for a Personal Reason

At Money in the Bank 2023, Cody Rhodes is set to fight Dominik Mysterio in what will surely be a heated affair. Rhodes’ last appearance at a Money in The Bank PPV 9 years ago in 2014, when he and his brother Goldust faced the team of Ryback and Curtis Axel.

Recently, Ryback took to his Twitter profile for a throwback on his match against Cody Rhodes, then going by the gimmick Stardust. He would speak about the match, while also discussing a certain incident that still bothers him to the core.

What is still bothering Ryback 9-years-later after his match with Cody Rhodes?

At Money in the Bank 2014, Goldust and Stardust faced the duo of Ryback and Curtis Axel in a winning effort. However, while discussing the match, Ryback would bring up the iconic singlet which Curtis Axel wore to match his partner.

Reflecting on his 9-year-old match, Ryback spoke about Curtis Axel’s singlet, and how they never got to wear it together again. He claimed that this bothers him still to date, and how they never got to wear them with matching beanies.

Ryback said, “It will forever bother me we never got that matching singlet 2 pack action figure with beanies.” Ryback and Curtis Axel, or as they went RybAxel, was a dominant tag team, formerly managed by Paul Heyman. However, their decision to ditch Heyman would eventually start their downfall.

The duo’s downfall turned ugly as they broke off things swiftly and decisively. The former tag team partners would start a feud against each other, with Cody Rhodes eventually leaving the company in 2016. Will Rhodes be able to recapture the magic at MITB tomorrow?

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has an opportunity to write history, as he returns to Money in The Bank event 9 years. His last appearance came in 2014, and now again in 2023, as he is set to face Dominik Mysterio. Fans expect Rhode to defeat Mysterio. However, in WWE an upset can appear anytime, and Rhodes’ feud with Brock Lesnar could prove to be a vital point here.

An interference from Lesnar could cost Rhodes the match, and hand Dominik Mysterio an essential win. However, fans will now need to wait and see if Lesnar costs Rhodes the match. Or if the former Intercontinental Champion is able to rewrite history.
