The much-awaited documentary of Cody Rhodes was just released on 31st July. Titled American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes, the documentary airing on Peacock has garnered positive reviews from fans worldwide. However, the most intriguing segment that caught everyone’s attention was the one about Dusty Rhodes going broke.

Now in a heartfelt documentary, the Rhodes family talks about the days Rhodes Sr. was broke and how that changed Cody’s perception of not venturing to Hollywood.

Documentaries have a unique feeling of touching someone’s nerves by making them emotional. Continuing that trend, the latest documentary by Rhodes gave a snippet on a variety of topics, including the earlier lives of the Rhodes family.

The family spoke about how they were broke, despite booming in the 80s and finding it difficult to bring food to the table. While Dusty Rhodes gave a glimpse of their initial situation, Rhodes elaborated on the issue.

Calling it “living on the edge of a lightning bolt” moment he quoted: I’ve seen the glorious side of what it looks like and then there’s another side, it was just… he tried to shield us from it”

Their elaboration makes it clear how unpredictable the wrestling business is. Despite doing well early on, Dusty went broke, affecting their situation at home. 

While Rhodes has always handled things maturely, he found his biggest reality check when Dusty sacrificed something precious to Rhodes, leaving him emotional. 

Dusty Rhodes went to “great lengths” to keep his family ambitions intact

Cody had a strong inclination towards Hollywood, but his financial circumstances prevented him from going there.

Dusty, however, understood his ambitions and sacrificed a great deal for him. Cody quoted: “he gave both my sister and I $10,000 cash each and I would find out later that he had pawned his Rolex, and I always thought I’d get that Rolex. So he was willing to go to great lengths.”

The selling of the Rolex watch was an eye-opener for Rhodes, who became vividly emotional. 

However, Dusty never expressed his pain and let Rhodes live his dream, and made him feel whole. Eventually, Cody Rhodes did go to the Howard Fine acting school, thanks to Dusty Rhodes, proving his mettle as a father.
