Cody Rhodes had one aim when he returned to WWE- to win the WWE Championship, which his father never won. The late Dusty Rhodes is an essential part of the feud of his son against Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief being trained by ‘The American Dream’ is something he has brought up to Cody in his promos. But recently, The American Nightmare gave his thoughts on this.

Rhodes was pretty straight when he talked about how his father didn’t train him and the 37-year-old has an entirely different perspective on it. The former AEW star had a response to Reigns’ promos where he mentioned Dusty Rhodes was not there to train his son. 

Cody Rhodes says how Dusty Rhodes was as a father

Recently, Rhodes appeared for an interview on Sports Illustrated. Jimmy Triana, the host asked Rhodes why Dusty didn’t coach him. Rhodes recalled Dusty having him at the age of 39 years old and left the wrestling business shortly.

The former TNT Champion, “Being there as far as a little league baseball coach, and football coach never missed the wrestling duel meet that I was part of. He was such an active father for me and the absolute perfect dad.”

Rhodes added, “I think that was what his bandwidth was for his it wasn’t to teach me how to do a hip toss, a body slam or what to do if the crowd goes off the rails in the middle of your interview. It wasn’t that. It was to teach me to be an adult, and hopefully a functioning adult and able to do that.”

The former Intercontinental Champion was a part of WWE when his father was coaching in the NXT. Even though Dusty Rhodes didn’t coach his son, he surely taught him to take risks.

Rhodes left WWE in 2016 and went on to start AEW after an illustrious independent circuit run. However, he left AEW due to certain reasons and returned to WWE last year at WrestleMania 38.

Rhodes’ says Dusty Rhodes did enough for him

In the same interview, he stated there was a sense of “intense jealously” that he didn’t get to attend his father’s training classes. Moreover, Dusty trained Roman Reigns much more closely at the time. However, he is fine with whatever his father did for him.

Rhodes said, “And that’s why it said in 2007 is Hall of Fame induction, a real like Hall of Fame father as well. I don’t think he was afraid of me failing……. But I think he did enough. As far as the father goes, that’s why it was.”
