Cody Rhodes and His Wife Once Played Matchmakers to a Current WWE Superstar That Led to Her Wedding- “We Actually Were Set Up on a Blind Date”

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has become an important figure in the wrestling world today. From his disappointing first WWE run to emerging as a mega sensation, Rhodes certainly has come a long way. However, did you know that Cody and his wife, Brandi once played matchmakers right after their WWE exit?

It can come as a surprise, considering how laser-focused they have always been around a wrestling setup. Yet, the Rhodes duo can be credited for being the early forces for a beautiful love story.

Who did Cody and Brandi Rhodes play matchmakers to?

Cody Rhodes had a lackluster run in WWE, despite his immense talent and carrying the lineage of his father, the American Dream Dusty Rhodes. His stint came to an end in 2016, as Cody left WWE. Moreover, his wife Brandi Rhodes, who worked as the ring announcer, Eden Stiles also exited just a short while after Cody Rhodes’ departure.

The next stop for the Rhodes couple led them to IMPACT Wrestling. The Prodigal Son was looking to undergo a major career resurgence, with his wife in his corner. However, both of them became intermediates in a love story that was about to blossom. Moreover, this tale happened between a current and former WWE Superstar.

Upon their arrival in IMPACT, the couple met then-IMPACT star, Chelsea Green. Both Cody and Brandi found her to be an amazing prospect for their friend, then-WWE superstar Matt Cardona. This led to the Rhodes setting up Cardona and Green on a “blind date.” Chelsea Green recently opened up about how she met Matt during an interview with Ryan Satin on his Out of Character podcast.

Green revealed, “We actually were set up on a blind date … kind of blind. Obviously, I googled everything about him going into the date. But we are set up on a blind date through Cody and Brandi coz Cody and Brandi had just left WWE and came over to IMPACT where I was at the time … and met me and said that they had a friend who is lonely and needed to go on a date. And so Matt slid in my DMs.”

As we know, the date must have gone pretty well and ended with Chelsea and Cardona becoming a couple.

What was the end result of Cody and Brandi’s matchmaking?

Cody and Brandi Rhodes introducing their friend, Matt Cardona to Chelsea Green might just be the best thing that ever happened in his life. Cardona and Green seemingly got along well and started dating around January 2017. They announced their engagement on Green’s 28th birthday in April 2019. Finally, the couple got married on New Year’s Eve 2021 in the city of Las Vegas.

Matt Cardona previously wrestled in WWE under the ring name Zack Ryder. He started in Vince McMahon‘s company in 2007 and become a mid-card attraction until his tenure ended in 2020. He then went on to gain success on the independent circuit. Chelsea Green had a successful stint in IMPACT Wrestling, following which she returned to WWE in 2023.
