Cody Rhodes’ massive Royal Rumble victory was emotional as much as it was surreal. After his first stint, WWE left him disappointed, he bet on himself and helped set up a rival to WWE in the form of AEW. However, last year Rhodes returned to WWE and after winning his WrestleMania match against Seth Rollins, he spoke about how badly he wanted to win the WWE Championship. Rhodes mentioned his late father, Dusty Rhodes never won the coveted title in WWE and he wants to win it for him to fulfill his promise. The Royal Rumble win takes him one step closer to achieving that.

Recently ‘The American Nightmare’ made an appearance on WWE The Bump. One of the hosts brought up a fan message which revealed Rhodes left special words for his late father after winning the Royal Rumble.

On the RAW after WrestleMania 38, Cody Rhodes cut an emotional promo on how he promised his father that he would win the WWE Championship and put it in his hands one day. Sadly, Dusty Rhodes passed away before his son could keep his word. But in the promo, he added he will keep his word and bring the WWE Championship to the Rhodes family for the first time.

As such, there was a sentimental factor attached to Rhodes winning the Royal Rumble on his quest to fulfill his dream. After Cody Rhodes dumped GUNTHER over the top rope to win the match, he addressed his late father.

This was brought up in WWE The Bump, with a fan message being displayed. It revealed the fan caught Rhodes “I did it dad” after he won the match. The former Intercontinental Champion commented on the topic and said this wasn’t something he planned. He said, “Sometimes you think what you are gonna say. That one wasn’t in my dream the visualization of what this Rumble could be being in it and then possibly winning it.”

He continued, “So as much as you try to distance yourself from that, you really can’t sometimes. And I’m glad somebody caught it.” Not only for Cody but for many of his fans, it would be heartwarming to know that he mentioned his father right after the biggest win of his career.
