Growing up, 36-year-old Xavier Woods and 37-year-old Cody Rhodes belonged to rival high schools in their neighborhood. Speaking in the documentary “American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes,” Xavier Woods opened up about their teenage rivalry.
He claimed that growing up, both he and Rhodes were rivals in amateur wrestling. Both of them shared the ring once as well, however, the result is not known. Cody Rhodes was famous because of his father, Dusty Rhodes. And speaking in the documentary, Woods revealed a teenage aspiration of his.
He said, “Cody and I were rivals in high school. My goal was to wrestle Cody and beat him in front of Dusty. And Dusty would go, ‘Oh man! I gotta train him. You are gonna be the best wrestler ever.’ That was what my teenage brain said. Like, that was my path, that was how I was supposed to make it in WWE.”
Woods revealed his teenage aspiration, and personal agenda as guidance and training from the legend Dusty Rhodes, after defeating his son.
However, that never happened. Although, both Woods and Rhodes were exceptional amateur wrestlers and one of the best from their respective schools. While Woods started focussing more on his education, Rhodes went on to pursue professional wrestling as a career from a young age. As fate would have it, both of them are with WWE right now.
What did Cody Rhodes’ high-school wrestling record look like?
In the documentary itself, Cody Rhodes went on to detail his high-school wrestling statistics. He claimed that in his junior, and senior years, he recorded 101-2. Rhodes would then win the State championship both as a junior, and a senior.
