CM Punk has always been a magnet that attracts controversy. There are very few instances when Punk gets away with a clean image whenever he rises to the headlines. Especially considering his AEW run, the brief tenure of two years went downhill quickly after he badmouthed the bigwigs of the locker room like Adam Page, Chris Jericho, and Young Bucks. Khan’s pride in signing one of the hottest free agents in the company abruptly ended with Punk getting into the dirt during the infamous AEW All Out media scrum.
Finally, the Second City Saint’s storied chapter in AEW wrapped up last year following an All-In scuffle, only to open a new avenue for him in WWE. Finally, it’s time for some good things to ensue for Punk after a tumultuous past. Ahead of the scheduled SummerSlam match with Drew Mclntyre, CM Punk’s determination to bounce back from an injury gained huge recognition.

CM Punk ensured a surreal re-entry to the WWE Universe during Survivor Series 2023. The Chicago-born star stunned his home-grown crowd and all of his die-hard fans from every corner of the world. He stretched that momentum up to Royal Rumble, where he delivered a captivating performance but failed to grab the big ticket to Philadelphia.
But the worst that happened was that he tore his tricep, leading to a long hiatus. Now, after finally getting cleared to do what he does best, Punk, quite unsurprisingly, chose Drew Mclntyre as his first opponent. The continuous tension running between the two has made the WWE Universe go in circles in anticipation. Now with Seth Rollins donning the referee’s shirt to officiate the match, the hype is at an all-time high.
Analyzing the minute creative efforts behind the sizzling-hot rivalry, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer noted, ”It’s like great promos, good, good, you know, a lot of great, really good to great matches. Just carrying a feud, carrying a feud with a guy who’s injured for six months, and carrying that feud for six months and making it bigger and bigger and bigger. And realistically, I mean, you could argue it’s the biggest match at Summer Slam. I think it’s the biggest. would say if you’re asking me, what’s the biggest match? I think that’s the one.”

However, in reality, the scheduled main event match between Rhodes and Sikoa was supposed to be dubbed the biggest flex of the night.
Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa is slated to be the main event of the PLE this Sunday
The audacity of Sikoa has been an open secret to everyone who is religiously following the weekly shows. The former Right-Hand man brought a belligerent revolution to the faction ever since Roman Reigns left the building temporarily after losing his Universal title. Sikoa recruited Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu and ousted Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman in order to build up a new Bloodline (Bloodline 2.0).

To bring forth glory in their new era, Sikoa planned to emulate The Tribal Chief. For his plan to come to fruition, he has to overcome Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. Rhodes has Randy Orton and Kevin Owens on his side to lessen the numerical advantage The Bloodline enjoys. However, whether it proves efficient can only be answered during the main event of the upcoming PLE.
Sikoa chose to go after Rhodes’ undisputed title to prove that Reigns was useless to his family. While the ego battle already has garnered enough eyeballs with the wild anticipation of Reigns’s shock return to intervene in between, the recent theory validated the Punk-Mclntyre bad blood more. It will be interesting to see how both the bouts come to a decisive end. What’s your take on CM Punk’s match gaining more acclaim than the main event of the night? Let us know in the comments.
