Drew McIntyre has come a long way since the beginning of his WWE run. Although he has lately been struggling to win the title that he so desperately wants to capture, McIntyre has had luck in winning the title in the past. One of the factors influencing his recent loss streak is the rivalry that he has developed with CM Punk.
Although this animosity began around WrestleMania XL this year, Punk was found talking about McIntyre way before they could have had any idea about what the future may hold for them.

In 2020, Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 on 25th March. This was the first that he was given this great opportunity. However, when asked about a hypothetical situation if he had won the same title at the beginning of his career, McIntyre claimed that he would not have done justice to the championship.
CM Punk talked about this on his Instagram Live when a fan asked him for his opinion on The Scottish Psychopath’s big achievement. The former AEW star said, “Congratulations, Drew McIntyre. I wish he would stop being so negative about himself. [I] see him say all kinds of things. Nasty things about like if he would have been given an opportunity a few years ago, [he] said he would’ve sucked. That’s no attitude to have.”

This is an interesting sight to see now that the two stars are feuding. While Punk used to call out the Scottish wrestler for being negative about himself, now he has to call him out amidst their ongoing rivalry.

The storyline took an unexpected turn on the last SmackDown, which may be crucial for their relationship in the company moving ahead.
Is CM Punk out of business again?
The Best in the World screwed over McIntyre the second time in Glasgow, when he played a trick on him and he lost a precious shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. This was imprinted on McIntyre’s head. He came on Monday Night Raw to announce that he was quitting WWE and the officials chased him to the outside of the arena in order to stop him somehow. Although he was spotted later that week, he did not bring good news to the show.

We saw McIntyre standing over a brutally beaten-up CM Punk on SmackDown in Chicago last week. This kind of showed that even if Drew isn’t leaving WWE, he doesn’t want Punk to be around. The wrestler was supposed to get medical clearance soon, as his promo revealed at the beginning of the night. However, this suggested that he may need some more days before he can start wrestling again.
CM Punk appeared alright soon after the show, foreshadowing that he was still not done with his arch nemesis.
