This weekend holds the biggest WWE premium event of the summer, SummerSlam. For this occasion, the company has a match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. The two wrestlers have been engaged in a rivalry since Punk was injured at the Royale Rumble at the hands of the Scottish Warrior. There are many unknowns in the match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. Seth Rollins will serve as a special guest referee. This leads to suspicions that he will have an important role in the outcome.
WWE will be hoping to round off the event with rousing success as they usher in a new era. WWE’s latest deal with Netflix will surely change the WWE landscape. In January, through a press release, both companies confirmed the broadcast of most WWE content on the streaming platform starting in 2025. The news generated some doubts, such as the change in the style of the product. CM Punk too believes the same, as according to the Cult of Personality, the WWE would become a lot edgier. But it would not be going back to the sleazy content once offered during the attitude and ruthless aggression era, such as the bra and panty matches and lesbian angles once offered by the promotion.

Instead, they could break away from keeping everything ultra PG like calling Hospitals ‘Medical Facilities.’ In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he said, “Yeah but I think a lot of people need a filter. You know, like a lot of people need that somebody to produce them and say, No, we’re not going to do that. Like Netflix just doesn’t mean you’re going to get like all these wild, like, lesbian angles or something like that. Some wrestling fans seem to think, but maybe we could be a little bit more edgy.”

He further added, “Yeah, maybe you know, but I already feel like since Vince is gone. A lot of what people thought were kind of strange. Like not calling a hospital a hospital, calling it a medical facility. Or so like that’s that’s all, yeah, all that’s in the past already. So yeah, you know. I’m just looking forward to the reach that Netflix has.” But with the change also comes the clause that Netflix will have to facilitate WWE Raw viewership in the future.

There is a belief that the U.S. audience is above 37 percent of the world’s. Although that is the number of households. There’s this idea that if they get a figure of 6.64 million viewers per average minute of RAW on Netflix, it’s going to be like they’ve more than tripled the amount of cable TV. But that figure would be the equivalent figure for the number of U.S. audiences of 1.8 million.
It has also been reported that NFL games on Peacock, Netflix, and Amazon Prime will be rated by Nielsen. NBA games too will record their ratings which will be on Amazon Prime starting in the 2025–2026 season. Eventually, Monday Night RAW will be rated because Nielsen will have to value streaming services to protect its own credibility. Nielsen is a leading global audience measurement, data, and analysis company for television programs and series. Initially, the data and audience numbers for Monday Night RAW were not going to be provided. But the situation has changed. So once the broadcasts of the program on Netflix begin, the audience data will be known. What do you think? Would the WWE find success with Netflix? What do you make of Punk’s revelations?
