It is a big feat to overshadow the stardom of someone as huge as Dwayne Johnson. The star stopped by at Friday Night SmackDown a few months ago and it was one of the most talked about moments in sports entertainment. The clip garnered many views on media outlets while the star was trending on social media. However, who knew someone would steal his spotlight effortlessly? Amidst months of speculation and controversy, came CM Punk. With the star continuing to be a hot topic, he was able to beat The Rock in the numbers game.
How CM Punk pinned Dwayne Johnson on the internet
CM Punk made his return to WWE after almost a decade. The return was surprising as no one was expecting the Second City Saint to ever return to WWE despite him dropping hints. The star returned on the 2023 edition of Survivor Series just when the curtains were about to fall. Punk walked into the arena and had a good look at the audience before the show ended. Along with that, he did not even cut a promo nor did he speak anything on the mic. Despite this, the 2-minute-long clip of his return that was posted on YouTube by WWE 3 weeks ago garnered a total of 7.2 million views.

On the other hand, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson dropped by on the September 15 episode of SmackDown earlier this year along with Pat McAfee. The Brahma Bull had cut a promo in his signature style while also delivering The People’s Elbow to Austin Theory. The segment was a long one in which they exchanged a lot of words before the fight broke out. The 12-minute-long clip was also posted by WWE on their YouTube channel almost 3 months ago. Despite being on the internet for such a long time, it was viewed 7.1 million times.
Now the numbers are huge but comparing the time since these two videos have been on the internet makes all the difference. The clip of Punk’s return, which was posted on WWE’s official Instagram account on November 25, was also viewed almost 29.5 million times as of December 20, 2023. Considering that it has been just a month since the video was posted, the numbers are impressive.
