CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre—Is this the match WWE fans have been waiting for?

The bad blood between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre seems never-ending. The duo has not left a single stone unturned to rub each other off on several occasions, leading the way for an official match to ensue. On top, when the much-anticipated one-to-one clash is slated for an exceptional PLE like SummerSlam, something unique could spring up from this. Digging deeper into the potential post-match direction, a new theory emerged in the lore even before the duo locked horns.

Tommy Dreamer, in the latest edition of the Busted Open Radio, came up with a likely scenario of how things could pan out in the high-stake feud between Punk and Mclntyre with Seth Rollins being the special referee.

We all were waiting for the Second City Saint to receive the medical green light to lace up his boots. Since the former AEW star went down injured, tearing his triceps during Royal Rumble this year, his WWE trajectory has not been the same. We missed the dare-devil voice on the mic, that overt self-conceit that can catch his opponents lacking, and everything in between. Thankfully, before the WWE faithful ran out of patience, WWE replanted Punk in the division, refueling his beef with the Scottish Psychopath.

Last week on Raw, the officials granted them their grudge match in SummerSlam but only under a special condition. Raw general manager Adam Pearce seemed fed up with their ruthless antics toward each other. However, to ensure order, he made Seth Rollins the special guest referee for the match. The Visionary has had beef with both superstars. Pearce’s thinking is sound as he hopes Rollins doesn’t display any bias in this high-stakes encounter. However, if things go smoothly remains to be seen on the fated night at SummerSlam.

Now, chiseling out different potential new angles from the highly effective match, Dreamer noted, ”He does not like either man has a personal and a professional issue with both of those guys and this guy is going to be your special referee. It’s easily factored in and it takes. It checks so many boxes. What are we going to do with Punk? What are we going to do with Drew? What are we going to do with Seth? If I roll after this, I have more feuds coming out of it. I also have an immediate three-way. That would be really, really good.”

Moving ahead, a former WWE employee has another sensible prediction about the match.

Punk isn’t quite ready to experience a setback

CM Punk has repeatedly stripped Drew McIntyre of his flowers in the big title matches. This continuous leading streak was enough to elevate his giant ego even more. From that point of view, former WWE persona Tommy Carlucci noted Punk won’t be okay with the slightest hint of the idea of putting Mclntyre over him.

The Scotsman has had enough drawbacks in the division to humble his ego. The company dumped him every time he almost reached for the stars via a title run. Given the way he has carried himself to date with unwavering motivation, it seems to be the time to get him what he deserves without fail. But as per Carlucci, it might be a bit problematic for Triple H to go with this, as Punk might reject the idea of a clean defeat.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out on the spectacular night next weekend. What’s your take on the predicted aftereffect of CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre match? Let us know in the comments.
