Garcia and Dwayne Johnson also bought the XFL for a million and are currently its owners. A long-time friend of The Rock, Brian Gewirtz revealed and shed some light in his book, ‘There’s just one problem…: true tales from the former, one-time, 7th most powerful person in WWE’ about Garcia and Johnson’s XFL project.

Gewirtz revealed his last stint in the XFL and how he was removed from the team and made to write the WWE shows. He further spoke about how he was later working for Johnson and Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions when he found out that they were planning on buying XFL.

Gewirtz said, “That ended up being the first and last week I was on the XFL beat. Since I really had nothing to do (those vignettes went away pretty quickly) and I needed to write the WWE shows, Stephanie told me I no longer needed to go.”

He further revealed how Bruce and Michael had to hit the road for XFL and be Stephanie McMahon’s protection for several weeks. Gewirtz revealed, “Eventually the ratings would nosedive as the league imploded. The fact that they stopped relying on cheesy vignettes and turned more toward actual football meant it was heading in the right direction, and the 2020 version was actually very pretty fresh and innovative.”

The executive producer of ‘Young Rock’ also spoke about the later version of the XFL and its takeover by Dwayne Johnson and Garcia. He said, “I was rooting for it to succeed in 2020, but it became a casualty of the coronavirus and had its season stopped short and then canceled.”

He further stated, “I didn’t think much of it until several months later. I was now working full-time at Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Production, and we needed to have a company-wide meeting. My jaw dropped when I found out why- Dwayne and Dany were planning on purchasing the XFL.”

He concluded by stating that he does not know what the future holds for XFL, which is set to debut in 2023. But he does know Johnson and Garcia’s love for football, and how, with distinct marketing and business plan, they can transform it into something completely different from its 2001 predecessor.

Gewirtz stated, “I’m genuinely excited and optimistic. But fair warning- if you hear announcers say, “We now go to midfield for the opening ‘F**k a Goat,'” then something has gone horribly wrong.” Gewirtz is a close friend of The Rock, and he is hopeful for a better future for the XFL.
