Can Bron Breakker truly emulate Roman Reigns' dominance after his Intercontinental Title win?

WWE SummerSlam was surely a spectacle, and one of the major talking points was the Intercontinental Championship match between Sami Zayn and Bron Breakker. Breakker defeated Sami Zayn to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion. Sami Zayn tried to utilize his experience, but it was not enough to stop his opponent. In the ultimate moments, Breakker neutralized the Helluva Kick with his spear. He then followed it up with a second to take the win by the count of three.

Breakker’s victory ended Sami Zayn’s 118-day reign as Intercontinental champion. The Canadian won the title on April 6, 2024, during the first day of WrestleMania XL after defeating Gunther. For Bron Breakker, this is his first championship on WWE’s main roster. This further spells major responsibility for the WWE superstar. If you remember, the rivalry between the two competitors began before the Money in the Bank PLE. The current Intercontinental champion had shown himself to be an unstoppable superstar who was creating problems for Adam Pearce because of his brute strength and dominance on Monday Night Raw talents.

Breakker wanted a title and to become a top star in the promotion. But with it comes a major responsibility. In the latest edition of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T had a piece of advice to share with the former NXT talent. He said that Breakker should follow in the footsteps of Roman Reigns and now focus on uplifting his opponents and putting them over whenever he faces them.

He said, “And the thing is, you know, I always talk about Roman Reigns being champion, and I always talk about all the guys that work with Roman Reigns walk away a better person, a better wrestler. And it shows. It shows. Bron Breakker’s gonna have to figure out how to create that same thing if he wants to have that legacy like I think he’s gonna have. Psychology is everything—being able to go out there and perform and make everybody look better than anybody else can make them look. That’s what Bron Breakker’s gonna have to think about in this championship run.”

Breakker’s first main roster defeat came at Money in the Bank. Sami Zayn beat Bron Breakker and retained the IC Championship in what many felt to be an awful booking choice for the former NXT star. So now that Breakker is in the spotlight for future PLEs, he should focus on his opponents’ performances. However, this shouldn’t be the issue if he gets his next dream opponent to face.

Ever since Breakker won the Intercontinental Championship, it is expected that during the next few months, the former NXT superstar will have the opportunity to defend the championship against great superstars. Among them could be none other than 16-time World Champion John Cena. In an interview with SEScoops, the 26-year-old spoke about John Cena’s career and recalled that he has never won the Intercontinental Championship. Breakker challenged Cena to face him during his retirement tour and look for the opportunity to become a champion against him.
