Remember how thousands of fans were left shell-shocked as Brock Lesnar pinned The Undertaker to end ‘The Phenom’s’ winning streak at WrestleMania? Since then, he has featured in the prestigious event seven more times, winning three and losing four matches.

The Beast Incarnate has lost the last three matches at WrestleMania. At WrestleMania 35, he lost to Seth “Freakin” Rollins. The next year, Drew McIntyre defeated him. Lesnar did not take part in WrestleMania 37, which took place in 2021, but returned the next year.

Roman Reigns had the last laugh during his encounter with Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. With three straight losses, it is no surprise that the 7x WWE Champion will look to better his record.

If reports are to be believed, the WWE has already decided upon his WrestleMania 39 opponent. According to WrestlingNews.co, it is none other than Gunther.

Brock Lesnar is one of the best to ever do it: Gunther

Gunther’s admiration of Brock Lesnar is no secret. The reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion has been vocal about ‘The Conqueror’ in the past.

In November this year, the Austrian named Lesnar as his “dream match”, during an interview with WMBD News.

“If I had to pin it down to one name, I’d say it’s Brock Lesnar at the moment,” he said.

Gunther said he loved watching Lesnar’s matches as a young fan and believes the 4x WWE World Heavyweight Champion is “one of the best to ever do it”.

If the WWE goes on with the proposed match, Gunther may finally have his wish come true- to face Lesnar inside the ring.

Lesnar vs. Gunther: Fan reactions

Meanwhile, Twitter was flooded with mixed reactions after the news broke. While some users cast doubt about Gunther’s ability to take on Brock Lesnar, others hoped it would be a good match.

Several users opined that it was too quick for Gunther to face someone of Lesnar’s calibre. A fan also urged the WWE to build Gunther before putting him against the Beast Incarnate.

“Exactly so they shouldn’t book it. Gunther isn’t Brock’s level of star power. He should be built up more before he has a match of that caliber. I’m not disrespecting Gunther by saying this, he’s one of my favourites on WWE,” the user commented.

One cannot blame the fans for being cynical, especially considering the names Lesnar has fought in the past at WrestleMania. In his debut WrestleMania match in 2003, he won against Kurt Angle. The following year, Lesnar’s match against Goldberg saw the latter walk home as the winner.

Lesnar has since fought against Triple H, The Undertaker, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Drew McIntyre.

He has fought Goldberg, Reigns and Rollins more than once at the mega-event. So Gunther has his work cut out. However, the WWE isn’t devoid of surprises.
