This is the second Premium Live Event in a row when WWE had to change their plans before the event. Last time, they made Lesnar the WWE champion at Day 1 because Roman Reigns tested positive for Covid-19 just before the event.

This latest report suggests Vince McMahon wanted former Intercontinental Champion Riddle to be the winner of the Rumble match. Riddle was there in the Rumble match for a considerable amount of time before getting eliminated.

However, Vince McMahon also wanted ‘The Viper‘ to create history and become the second person to win the Royal Rumble for the third time. Yes, before Lesnar, the WWE chairman wanted Randy Orton to win.

Now, it is not clear why Lesnar was added into the mix because, at the same event, Paul Heyman betrayed Lesnar during his match with Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship.

That could have handed the company the key to insert Lesnar back into the Universal Championship scene. Hence, Lesnar winning the Rumble match may have felt a bit shoved into the fans’ faces.

The storyline between Paul Heyman, Roman Reigns, and Brock Lesnar certainly became the talk of the town of the wrestling industry.
