John Cena personified the image of a clean-cut babyface for most of his career. When it comes to being the ultimate and pure good guy in wrestling, only Hulk Hogan could rival Cena’s portrayal of the babyface character. But before he became the Cenation Leader, he was the Doctor of Thuganomics.
Before the Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect, there was Word Life Cena. A heel, John Cena, walked down the ramp and insult his opponents by rapping and tearing them to shreds verbally. During this run, Cena ran down his rivals and even engaged in some rap battles on TV with wrestlers like Kurt Angle and Big Show.

Fans react to John Cena competing in a rap battle with fans almost two decades ago
One of the reasons John Cena had massive success in WWE was due to his incredible ability on the mic. Early in his career Cena used to be a freestyle rapper and brought that with him after his initial run in WWE. Cena referred to himself as The Doctor of Thuganomics and rapped his way to the main event spot in the company.
He got over with the fans due to his ability to entertain them whenever he picked up a mic and rapped on his opponents. It led to some memorable moments with the likes of WWE legends such as Kurt Angle and the Big Show. As Cena strutted down to the ring, he would trash-talk his opponents in rhyme and the fans ate it up. Even as a heel, the crowd was appreciating the freshness Cena brought to the product.
Recently, a video went online which shows Cena engaging in a rap battle with some fans about 19 years ago. The video is from the Jersey All-Pro Wrestling’s 6th Anniversary Show. In the video, a fan first starts rapping on Cena, before the Doctor of Thuganomics just takes over and, like his WWE persona, puts his opponents down one by one.
Fans reacted to this video and reminisced about Cena’s days as a rapper in WWE.
