While there were many rumors about the two fighting at WrestleMania 6, the two didn’t agree to a match in the end. People say that there were two reasons for this to happen.
One, Mike Tyson did not want to lose at WrestleMania and let his shine wither by being defeated by Hogan. Two, WWE didn’t want to showcase a wrestler being beaten by a boxer in the main event of their biggest show. But this former WWE employee says the reason was something else.
Former WWE executive reveals the true reason for no match between Hulk Hogan and Mike Tyson
On the ‘Something to Wrestle’ podcast, Bruce Prichard had this to say about why Hogan vs Tyson didn’t happen, “Probably even bigger at that time. There’s a tape that exists with Mike Tyson in Tokyo, Japan. Vince had a Japanese film crew that followed him around in Japan. Since there was a language barrier there, Vince, through the interpreters, just told the camera guy to shoot Tyson. Just don’t even stop shooting him. We’re not gonna start and stop because that was getting too confusing.”
Prichard continued, “And the camera guy recorded everything going on through this time. One of the conversations that took place was Vince joking, “Goddamn Mike, we gotta get you in the ring! I gotta get you into wrestling,” and Mike replied, “Oh, I ain’t getting in the ring with Hulk Hogan. He’s huge. He will kill me as a shoe.”
“Mike was a huge wrestling fan and loved Hulk Hogan, but he believed it. He just saw Hulk Hogan, and he saw the Rocky movie and what he did to Rocky, and he thought that could be him.”
