WWE contracts of many of the superstars will expire through the course of 2024. While Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins have already secured their future for the next couple of years through new monster deals, the future of stars like Ricochet, and Becky Lunch still hangs in balance. In the thick of the situation, WWE veteran Booker T added himself to the list hinting he is also nearing his contract expiry date. But now he is being accused of lying about his contract situation.
Booker T was brought to the NXT commentary team in 2022 following the end of his glorious 37-year in-ring endeavor and he garnered huge recognition there. It’s hard to imagine NXT shows airing live without Booker T’s voice resonating throughout the ground, but a recent cryptic announcement has left fans wondering. Sean Ross Sapp’s latest tweet, however, has put the record straight.

Booker T ended his in-ring affairs in 2017 as he felt creatively stuck and drained by King Booker’s gimmick. Later he returned to WWE, but for commentary and not for any in-ring endeavor. Although he was given a brief spot in Royal Rumble 2023, it was just a one-off appearance as the veteran confessed his inability to perform in the ring due to age issues.
Now, it seems Booker’s tenure as an announcer is also nearing its end. Appearing on the podcast Going Ringside With The Local Station, he said, “I think right now NXT is hot. Everybody is geared to going out and performing and performing to try to make it to that next level and if I can have any part in these guys making it to the next level, I’mma have some fun. The contract should be coming up here pretty soon and you know, like Sexyy Red, shake it real fast, get a little more.”
Meanwhile, the Fightful journalist Sean Ross Sapp referred to a 5-year-old piece where Booker T said his contract stretches up to 2029. ”Was this just for entertainment purposes? Lol,” Sapp tweeted.

It can be a similar instance like Booker T saying he had a backstage altercation with CM Punk and later clarifying it was nothing like that. However, if Booker T’s contract is indeed expiring, will the legend step into the ring for one final time to answer a rookie’s challenge before his contract expires?

Former NXT Champion Trick Williams deems the WCW legend as his childhood idol. During a recent interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, the 30-year-old rising star noted that he’s in regular contact with Booker T and receives tons of guidance about his career. Booker plays the role of an uncle in his life. However, Trick Williams expressed his desire to face his ‘Uncle Book’ in the squared circle and called it a dream match.

Booker, however, doesn’t want the match. Responding to the shout-out from Williams, the Hall of Famer said he doesn’t want to exploit the inexperience of the young talent in the ring, rather he wants the best for him, deeming the kid as the future of the business.
