There are very few in WWE’s history who didn’t fall victim to Vince McMahon‘s quirky acts or erratic behaviors at least once in their tenure in the company. But it didn’t all end in fun and trolling all the time. Once in a while, it went up to as serious as causing a real emotional struggle for the persons concerned. After all, McMahon is here to not just make people burst into laughter with his hilarious mustache.

Despite his stature, the executive chairman of WWE has encountered numerous controversies throughout his life. From setting up the humiliating kiss my a** club to being sued with a sexual misconduct charge, Vince never let the spotlight go from him, but for the worst reasons. The long list of his controversies includes making WWE legend Road Dogg cry during the twilight of his career.

Dogg, one half of the popular tag team, The New Age Outlaws, felt utterly helpless when McMahon split up the tag team involving him and Billy Gunn. It was a new low for him as he lacked the self-belief to ‘shine alone’ without Gunn by his side.

Road Dogg admitted being in tears because of a rigid decision by Vince McMahon

The Outlaws were hyper over with the fans when they unintendedly broke up. They went for their respective singles run back in 2000. Nevertheless, the tag team duo’s loss against Dudley Boyz at No Way Out in February 2000 paved the way for a major change. Vince McMahon saw a better prospect for each of them as a single competitor in the roster.

During the latest episode of the Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, Roads recalled, “This is the time where I literally went in and asked Vince to please not split us up because I don’t think I can do it without Billy. That’s just me being honest. There might have been tears shed to be quite honest with you and when I say might have been, I mean, I cried.”

The Hall of Famer failed to get rid of his skepticism despite assurances from McMahon. While he had firm faith in Gunn carving out a successful run, his own pattern of thinking didn’t let him think the same about himself.

Explaining his mindset back then, the former tag team champion added, ”I just didn’t see that happening. I’m a big future tripper. That means that you forecast fear onto future events, stuff that ain’t happened yet. I didn’t know if I would succeed, if I would stand or fall as an individual talent, but I projected fear onto the future.

The New Age Outlaws are widely remembered as one of the most popular tag teams in history. In 2019, the duo even got inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame as part of the DX faction. Besides their association with D Generation X, it was their magnificent in-ring chemistry that worked as a massive crowd-puller. They won six WWE Championship titles during their tenure.

The duo struggled to shine on their own initially after McMahon forcibly separated them. However, they quickly bounced back before finally reuniting at TNA Impact Wrestling in 2004.
