Big E defended his Intercontinental Championship on WWE SmackDown in a blockbuster triple threat match. Sami Zayn and Apollo Crews tried their hardest to steal Big E’s championship, but they fell at his feet.

The IC Champion is now destined to roll into WrestleMania with the title, unless someone else beats him to the punch.

The match kicked off with Sami Zayn getting launched by the champion with a big back-body drop. Crews and E hit the ring and dazzled the ThunderDome with their wrestling. Crews hit a startling three German suplexes on Big E before pinning him for a nearfall.

Apollo Crews looked very impressive in this match, busting out some cool manoeuvres. If you thought the German suplexes were amazing, wait till you see the beautiful standing moonsault he hit on the champion from the apron to the floor. Sami Zayn was the underdog in this match, but Crews and Big E effectively neutralised his usual heel antics.

Crews almost won the title with a frog splash on Zayn, who showed great determination by kicking out. Apollo grabbed Zayn and looked to hit him with a T-Bone suplex, but Big E ran in from behind and hit Crews with a German suplex with Crews tossing Zayn.

The finish came with Zayn being gorilla press slammed into the timekeepers area by Crews. He rolled back into the ring to meet his eventual doom, a Big Ending to seal a big win for the champion.

With a huge win on SmackDown, Big E desperately needs a new challenger for the Intercontinental Championship. Apollo Crews has exhausted his chances at the title, and Sami Zayn is doing well with his Stand Against Moral Injustices [SAMI] campaign.

At the Royal Rumble, E put on an excellent performance before his dream was shattered by AJ Styles and Omos. The former WWE Champion has not held gold for a while now, and a match with Big E down the line would be a good idea.

Another potential opponent for Big E is Christian. In 2014, the legend won the chance to face E for the title, but the match never happened.
