CM Punk has been out of AEW for over 7 months now, but his old workplace has recently started taking shots at him. As we all know, Punk’s term at AEW ended abruptly because of the circumstances that he found himself in. However, the promotion has recently started re-using the old feud on the internet which has received backlash from various fans. Recently, the official handle for AEW took to Twitter and uploaded a clip of a scripted backstage brawl. While the video may not have hinted to fans at what Tony Khan’s wrestling company was trying to do, the caption gave away their intended callout.
One of the factors contributing to CM Punk getting fired from AEW was his backstage altercation with co-star Jack Perry at AEW ‘All In’ 2023. In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Punk explained the backstage footage that had been going viral, thanks to the wrestling promotion. The “Best in the World” confessed on the MMA Hour that he did not want AEW using real glass on rental cars to smash wrestlers on, resulting in his argument with Jack Perry.
The Chicago-based wrestler believed if they damage the rental cars, no company will rent AEW any cars in the future. The promotion’s social media team used this to call him out. The uploaded AEW Rampage footage showed a wrestler getting slammed into a rental car’s windshield. This supposedly looked like a callout to CM Punk’s interview and what he had said about not damaging rentals.

Fans drag Tony Khan for being stuck on CM Punk
Ever since the backstage altercation footage was shown during the live AEW show, fans have been divided over whether Tony Khan did the right thing or not. While some support AEW either way, others criticize Khan for obsessing over a talent who is not even signed to his company anymore.
