In 2016, Colin Kaepernick prioritized a public issue over his football career. Consequently, the former San Francisco 49ers star didn’t get many chances to prove his skills after his release. To this date, Kaepernick’s decision to protest against the systemic racial inequality in the US has barred him from signing a contract with the NFL. Even after a couple of years since the event, Dwayne Johnson hadn’t forgotten his bold move.
In an old interview, The Rock revealed how he would have followed the social activist’s lead in protesting against racism. The unwavering support was a fresh sight for fans who had not seen Johnson taking a political stand so openly.

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played a single match with the big football league since 2017. After the San Francisco 49ers released him, he has been a free agent in his football career and a social activist. However, The Rock still wanted to ‘revive’ Kaepernick’s career to its full glory by utilizing his talents in the ‘XFL’. Much to fans’ surprise, the former NFL star declined DJ’s offer. Before the failed negotiation, Johnson once expressed his honest opinion on how he would have reacted to the protest had he been an NFL player.
The Brahma Bull sat down with Rolling Stone for an interview in 2018. He was also talking about Kaepernick kneeling down during the national anthem of the US before a football game, to protest against racial injustice in the country. Johnson, who harbored aspirations to play in the NFL as a university student, said that he “would either have knelt or raised my fist in solidarity” if he had been a player in the league.
He also claimed that a protest is a ‘cry for help’. So, he believes that Kaepernick’s lead should have received more support than it did.
Following the protests, the then-president of the country, Donald Trump, made angry comments publicly. This seemed to have upset the Hollywood superstar, who probably expected a different reaction from Trump.

During the same interview, Johnson added, “I felt like our president’s responses were being dictated by the noise and not the actual problem.” Although seeing Johnson take a political stand is rare, this wasn’t the only time he talked about a social issue.
