WWE has been home to many great rivalries over the decades. We have had Hogan-Savage, Michaels-Bret Hart, Austin-Rock, and many more. Sometimes, these in-ring feuds can spill outside and lead to real-life animosity between the two stars.

Two of WWE’s top female wrestlers of this generation, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, are an example of in-ring hatred translating into a real-life grudge.

Flair and Lynch were part of the famed Four Horsewomen in NXT and found success on the main roster. The duo were good friends until professional jealousy got in the way. And then in 2018, after a tense segment on SmackDown, their friendship further deteriorated.

Recently, Lynch’s ex-boyfriend Jeff Dye talked about Lynch’s friendship with Flair falling apart in 2018 and how it was a case of two top talents vying for the same spot.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch made their in-ring rivalry personal

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair are two era-defining stars of the WWE. Their rivalry took the Women’s division to new heights and made them global icons.

But in between all that, the two have also stayed in the news due to their real-life heat with each other. There may have been a competitive edge to this rivalry at the beginning, but things turned sour as they wrestled with each other a lot and even took personal shots at each other.

Speaking on the Wrestling with Freddie podcast, hosted by former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. Jeff Dye, the ex-boyfriend of Lynch, explained why their friendship soured. Dye, who dated Lynch in 2018, opened up on the real-life conflict between the two female stars.

Dye said, “I hope I’m not sharing too much here, but they would take it really personal. Like when her and Charlotte were feuding, I would listen to her be like, ‘I can’t believe Charlotte’s actually getting mad at me.’

The American Comedian also revealed that he tried to reason with Lynch and said there was no reason for them to be upset about it. He continued, “I was like, ‘You guys do know this is a storyline, right? You guys don’t have to actually be upset with each other for this to work.'”

Further, he said that their personal rivalry stemmed from wanting to be the top woman in the division. As fans know, Lynch and The Queen were part of the first-ever Women’s WrestleMania main event.

There was another dent in their already fragile friendship in 2021. Flair and Lynch were supposed to exchange their respective Women’s titles after being drafted to different brands.

But things got out of hand when Flair threw the RAW Women’s title on the floor instead of handing it over during the title exchange with The Man. Lynch retaliated by throwing her title belt at Flair. They even got into a heated backstage argument afterward.

The two stars are still at loggerheads with each other and, according to Lynch, they don’t speak with each other.

This real-life rivalry has also meant that WWE has kept the two stars apart since their heated title exchange last year. If Triple H does decide to revisit the feud any time down the line expect fireworks aplenty.
