There aren’t many celebrities from the ’90s WWE landscape that most fans remember today. But the one that stands out is Pamela Anderson. The Canadian blonde was a regular in Hollywood in the ’90s. So, Vince McMahon scored big when she appeared on WWE TV in 1995. Vowing to walk the WrestleMania ramp with the Royal Rumble winner, the original ‘Baywatch’ actress walked instead with the champion, Diesel.

But at the end of the night, Pamela chose correctly as Diesel was the one whose hand got raised after a brutal 20-minutes. But the star of the night wasn’t the victor, but the woman who got her fans to tune into WrestleMania that night, Anderson. That might not be the case if this WWE legend has anything to say about that.
How Pamela Anderson affected WWE’s structure through her appearances in 1995
On the recent episode of ‘Oh… You Didn’t Know’, the podcasters were talking about celebrities in wrestling. When they were talking about Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy, the former WWE tag team champion, Road Dogg said, “They looked at beautiful women to boot. Huge successful interaction, because both of them were beautiful Hollywood blondes and on top of their game at the time. So, what a great addition, just like the Tyson addition. Anytime we can cross-promote with Hollywood, why wouldn’t you do that?”
“That’s just my personal opinion. And you know what’s debatable is if you give me the star’s name and I’d say, maybe we don’t do that cross-promotion. But the ones we have talked about so far are definitely worth doing the cross-promotion and helping a great deal. I don’t have the analytics, like, what the numbers did with Pam Anderson. But I can’t imagine it wasn’t great,” said Road Dogg clarifying that they were not a distraction but a factor for growth and opportunity to grow your audience.

More interestingly, he compared Mike Tyson and Anderson’s appearances. While Tyson was involved in one of the most intense segments, Anderson was only there at two PPVs. But it could be argued that her star power and charisma easily got people interested as much as Tyson’s appearances. To be perfectly honest, Hollywood was much larger than boxing at any time, particularly in the ’90s.
