Sources have indicated to me that, while the plan is for a Matt Riddle vs Baron Corbin rivalry going forward, Corbin only recently found out about those plans and wasn’t too happy with them – insisting that Riddle should have to defeat five enhancement talents before facing him.

Did WWE Superstar Matt Riddle come up too fast?
Corbin felt that Riddle was ascending through the ranks too fast. This may in fact be true, seeing as to how Riddle beat AJ Styles, the Intercontinental Champion on his debut in SmackDown.
Usually, new talent is subject to a harsh string of losses, to judge how good they can carry themselves with the fans. Through the preliminary matches (what Corbin called enhancement matches), the fans are primed for the Superstar.
After the enhancement matches, the new performer is thrown into a feud with a top-billed superstar.

Riddle and Corbin do have a history together. Corbin eliminated Riddle in the most recent Royal Rumble and in the Survivor Series matchup.
Both these events happened when Riddle was still in NXT. So, the foundation for the two to be in a storyline is already set.
