Dwayne Johnson is all over the news again. He has made his surprise return to WWE as The Rock. The fans are excited, thinking about the possibilities that might come with this return.

However, a few weeks ago, CM Punk was in the news too but not for different reasons. He was fired from the AEW due to his complicated relationship with Tony Khan as well as his tendency to get into altercations with his fellow wrestlers. But in a surprising twist, the controversial wrestler made a subtle revelation that he might make his return to WWE.

After his exit from AEW, CM Punk made his way back to MMA. This time around, the former pro wrestler is in a bit of an unusual role. Instead of standing in the octagon, he is outside the ring. He was seen at the Cage Fury Fighting Championship’s (CFFC) 125th edition as a part of the commentary team. In a discussion with fellow commentators, he subtly hinted at his possible return to WWE.

As he was about to give his justification for why they should do a post-match show to break things down, one commentator interrupted and asked if it was because he had a lot of time now. To this Punk replied that he had some time now. He also mentioned that he is free for 2 months.

This has spread some buzz around the wrestling community. The reason is that WWE’s Survivor Series is about to start in two months. The event will be held in Chicago, Illinois, which also happens to be his hometown. This has only served to intensify the buzz surrounding his return.

The speculation about his return to WWE has been doing the rounds since his release from AEW. However, it has made a significant impact now as Dwayne Johnson has also returned to the promotion. Could this mean an old rivalry will be reborn?

The Rock vs. CM Punk

The rivalry between Punk and The Rock is a special one as Johnson was responsible for Punk turning heel. The Rock had challenged CM Punk for the Royal Rumble Championship title. This happened at RAW 1000 where Johnson was a special guest and Punk was the championship title holder. He was also involved in a special angle with Punk. Rock’s actions gave birth to the heel side of CM Punk and thus a new era for CM Punk had began.

Unfortunately for him, Punk was not able to defend his title against The Rock. Fast forward to 2023 and it’s been almost a decade since he lost his title. If Punk is a part of the Survivor Series, this could mean he will slowly make his way up to confront Johnson.
