John Cena is enjoying life as a successful Hollywood actor these days. The former WWE Champion transitioned from pro wrestling to movies slowly and steadily and now boasts impressive filmography. As fans know, he followed in the footsteps of another WWE star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson into Hollywood. As with The Rock, Cena didn’t have the best of starts to his acting career and there was a specific reason behind it.

Many pro wrestlers have tried their hands at forging a successful career in Hollywood. However, the success of Dwayne Johnson and now John Cena is unprecedented. Cena has found his feet in Hollywood after a period of struggle and, according to the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’, it was his own doing.

John Cena said he was judgemental

Although there are similarities between the two, but the worlds of pro wrestling and Hollywood come with their own set of challenges. John Cena found this out the hard way when he was starting of his current career as an actor. For someone like Cena, who gave his best years to WWE and was the poster boy of the company for almost a decade, the transition from the squared circle to the big screen wasn’t easy.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last year, Cena spoke about his early years as an actor and cited some films as his less successful ventures. He even admitted that he was judgemental and berated people for not being as productive as WWE.

He said, “I used to chastise people for not working as efficiently as the WWE. And as a young man, I failed big. I was judgmental, and I was apprehensive. And I wanted to be back in the ring because I loved that immediate gratification.

Although the initial period was tough, he has found his feet in Hollywood. Cena was able to overcome his own apprehension and appeared in notable films including the latest Fast & Furious installment, F9. He recently starred in DC’s Suicide Squad as ‘Peacemaker’ and now has his own series based on the character on HBO Max.

Interestingly, his predecessor Dwayne Johnson was also misguided early on in his acting career, but by others. DJ revealed people asked him to make certain changes if we wanted to be successful in Hollywood. On ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ The Rock recalled, “I was told then, ‘You can’t call yourself The Rock. Don’t talk about pro wrestling. You gotta lose weight, go on a diet, you’re too big, don’t go to the gym as much.’”

Given that ‘The Brahma Bull’ was a beefed-up pro wrestler, it would’ve been hard for him to make all these changes. But the fans are glad that both John Cena and The Rock made it past their early struggles and stand as two successful Hollywood actors in the modern day.
