This Saturday, at the King and Queen of the Ring 2024 event, a controversial ending took place in the fight between Gunther and Randy Orton. A finish that decided the winner of the King of the Ring tournament. The Ring General took the win with a crucifix pin. But the referee didn’t see that Orton didn’t have one of his shoulders on the canvas. So unfortunately for the Viper, the ref did not stop the count. And the match was a three-count pinfall win for Gunther.

The fans surely did not expect such a finish. The two superstars are some of the best the WWE has to offer. So seeing a controversial finish was not something that anyone had in mind. In fact, fans stormed to social media to call out the botched ending.

And it seems like the news of the botch has reached the higher-ups, as Triple H just announced a rematch between the two.

Triple H chose to respond to the criticism on his X account with an interview with Byron Saxton. ‘The Game’ has stated that he has seen everything that has happened. Although he wanted to clarify that the referee’s decision was already firm and final. So Gunther is officially King of the Ring. However, he would love to see a fight between them again.

HHH believes that The Viper deserves another chance against ‘The Ring General’. He also says that Gunther would be accepting this rematch to prove once and for all that he is better than Orton.

Triple H suggests King of the Ring 2024 rematch could be on the horizon “to take the asterisk off”

The rematch between them will take place, but Orton will have to recover first from this Saturday’s fight as he has suffered injuries to his back and knees according to The Game. Triple H said, “Especially after what I saw tonight. I certainly wanna see that again. I think Randy Orton deserves to have another shot at that. And I think if I know anything about Gunther, he will want to have another shot at that. To take the controversy out. To take the asterisk off of the page where it says King of the Ring for him. I think he will want to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is better than Randy Orton. So I think, having seen Randy back here. He’s pretty banged up, both his knee and his back. I think it’s going to be a moment or two before he is ready to step back into the ring with Gunther. But when he is, let’s go.”
