Despite facing a massive loss in his XFL venture, Dwayne Johnson took to his social media to share tidings about his upcoming film project, Moana. The live-action remake of the 2016 film is in the making for a future release.

The Walt Disney Animated Studio’s family/adventure film follows the journey of ‘Moana’, daughter of Chief Tui, setting out to return the heart of the goddess Te Fitti from Maui(Dwayne Johnson), a demigod. 

Dwayne Johnson shares a positive update about his upcoming film with a powerful message

It was recently reported that Dwayne Johnson lost an estimated $60M as XFL wrapped up its first season. Despite incurring a colossal loss, he’s keeping a stiff upper lip and lies optimistic about its future. In addition, Johnson took to his social media platforms and shared the release date of Moana. 

He will reprise his role as Maui in the upcoming film. The film will hit the big screen on June 27, 2025. Taking to Instagram, the Hollywood star posted Polynesian music with powerful messaging.

He wrote, “Sometimes our strengths lie beneath the surface. Far beneath in some cases. Humbled (and excited) to share our official release date for our live-action @disneystudios MOANA June 27, 2025. It’s my privilege to share our legends, songs, and dance of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families.”

While Johnson is excited to reprise his role, Auli’i Cravalho has refused to play the role of the titular character. Although Cravalho was the voice of Moana in 2016, she publicly pulled herself from reprising the role in the live-action remake. She stated that the role should go to someone who resonates with the character. Although Disney will have to look for a new actress, the release date of the film is confirmed.
