All the fans reacted over the internet to Brock Lesnar returning to the WWE ring again in 2023. This wasn’t the first time Lesnar took a hiatus from WWE. The wrestler first left the promotion in 2004 after his infamous match with Goldberg at WrestleMania 20. Although the departure in itself was pretty hurtful to fans of sports entertainment, it was necessary for him to have all the experience that he wanted to have for himself. The outcome of the Lesnar-Goldberg match also surprised many, with the former WCW Champion going over.

Popular American sports journalist, Dave Meltzer, recently talked about the match result. Meltzer took to Twitter on why he thinks that Lesnar lost one to Goldberg on his way out.

In 2004, Lesnar chose to do much more than just wrestling. He decided to check himself out of sports entertainment and get into a different world altogether. Lesnar is known for trying out several things in this lifetime. However, his release in 2004 from WWE was iconic in itself. He was seen losing to a fellow wrestler, Bill Goldberg, in the same year that he had left the promotion. While this was a topic of discussion among fans, Dave Meltzer saw it fit to drop in with his peak level of credibility.

Talking about the defeats, when a fan connects another fight of The Conqueror to Goldberg’s and asks, “is that because the plan was always Brock v Goldberg non-title therefore he had to lose it?” To this confusion, the experienced journalist adds, “Brock would have won that one had he stayed. Brock was to win, but when Brock gave notice, they had Goldberg win.” This last moment change of plans seemed abrupt. However, WWE had a valid reason to do so and went in that direction.

Lesnar and Goldberg went at it again in 2016 at Survivor Series and had an extended program that culminated at WrestleMania 33. Since then, Goldberg has spoken highly of Lesnar and the two stars have respect for each other. Those matches and the drama around their feud did help the fans to do away with the bad memories of their 2004 bout to some extent.
