Motor City Machine Guns in WWE—Will they revolutionize the tag team division or fizzle out?

Alex Shelley, who is one-half of the beloved Motor City Machine Guns, has been announcing retirement from indie promotions one by one along with his partner. Fans have picked up this pattern to conclude that the tag team may be headed to WWE. Amidst these rumors, Shelley has announced another retirement from yet another promotion.

Since the wrestlers aren’t bound to any one company, they are running an independent circuit, performing in different indie shows. Recently at one show, Shelley provided another emotional update, foreshadowing possible WWE arrival.

Alpha Zo defeated Shelley at the ‘Untouchable’ PPV hosted by West Coast Pro, DPW, and Prestige in a collaboration. This is where he let the fans know that probably wouldn’t be seeing him there at all. Amidst all the WWE-bound rumors, it could also give you some hope. He began his last speech by saying, “Spoiler alert! I might not come back here.” The former TNA World Champion claimed that the future of the sport is safe and sound within the West Coast Pro ring. He then went on to close off by saying, “The last thing I wanna say is thank you so much for the past two and a half years.

All of this happened after his match at the PPV on 20th July. Since WWE doesn’t allow wrestlers to wrestle in select indie shows, unlike Tony Khan, Chris Sabin and his partner announcing retirement everywhere helped fans connect the dots that they may be headed to the Stamford-based company.

Tony Khan is also interested in acquiring Alex Shelley and his partner

WWE may not be the only promotion involved in the negotiations. While there are no official reports on the same, rumors suggest that the Motor City Machine Guns may be getting some offers on their hands that they will have to weigh carefully before accepting. This is probably why they are careful with their words, suggesting that they ‘might’ not come back. If they had made the decision already, the wrestlers could have used more certain terms. However, even apart from this speculation, Tony Khan has addressed how he wishes to have the talents back at AEW, after their noteworthy appearances in 2022.

At All Out 2022, the AEW President had called in the MCMG to help out by adding their flavors to the PPV. Even though the two lost the match that they were placed in, fans had a fun time watching them in the All Elite Wrestling. They didn’t show up again to work there. When asked about his thoughts on the two, Khan recalled the time they were working in AEW. This is when he claimed that he would love to have them back anytime they want. So, it could be that he also offered them a contract that they are currently weighing against others.
