Moana is one of Dwayne Johnson’s most successful animated feature films. The 2016 film is one of the most well-loved films of all time. And Johnson recently took it one step ahead and announced the decision to release the film in live-action.
Posting on his Instagram, he said, “As you know Hawaii means so much to my family and me. And the traditions of our Ohana or “aiga” as we say in Samoa were shaped by these incredible islands. The Pacific islands and their culture inspired a very special story, one that you all know very well.”

He further described how the character of Maui was based on one of his most personal relationships, “we found so much inspiration for Maui in the mana and the presence of my late grand father, the legendary High Chief, Peter Maivia. He would walk in, light up the room, the energy, the tattoos, the hair, the bod.”
