WWE, the undeniable titan of sports entertainment, has never shied away from asserting its dominance. Recently, Triple H threw some shade at AEW in Cody Rhodes‘ documentary. It sheds light on the ongoing rivalry between the two wrestling giants. As Rhodes’ life and career are explored in the new documentary on Peacock and WWE Network, a fellow WWE legend has stepped up to make a bold claim about Tony Khan‘s company in a podcast.

WWE legend says “WWE needed to do that”

In the documentary, Cody Rhodes opened up about his departure from AEW, attributing it to a “personal issue,” emphasizing that money and conflicts with other talent weren’t the reasons behind his exit. Instead, Rhodes revealed that leaving AEW in 2019 allowed him to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming WWE Champion. Triple H’s appearance in the documentary saw him praising Rhodes for his brave decision to return to WWE while also labeling AEW as a “secondary promotion.

Adding fuel to the fire, the candid WWE wrestler Kurt Angle recently spoke brazenly on AEW during a podcast episode of The Kurt Angle Show.

He said, “I’m surprised at that. But I mean, that’s a good thing. I think the WWE needed to do that just to let everyone know we’re not… we’re not, you know, blindly scared.

He further went on to add- “Well, we’re not blind, not only blind, but we’re not scared about this company taking over our company like, yeah. Hey, no, they’re in a good spot they know that.”

Angle’s comments further assert the status of WWE as the standout wrestling promotion.

Angle boldly asserted that WWE is not afraid of AEW and that the company does not cower blindly before anyone. Expressing surprise at WWE’s mention of AEW in the documentary, Angle deemed it a positive move.

Triple H’s has taken digs at AEW before

Triple H’s latest dig at AEW is just one instance in a series of jabs taken by the WWE legend. In October 2022, he engaged in a lengthy interview with Ariel Helwani, discussing the perceived rivalry between NXT and Dynamite. It was usually dubbed “Wednesday Night Wars.”

Back in 2019, during DX’s WWE Hall of Fame induction speech, Billy Gunn expressed fearlessness about being fired. It went on to hint at a potential move to AEW. In response, Triple H humorously quipped that Vince McMahon would acquire that “pissant company” to fire Gunn again.

The tension between WWE and AEW continues to simmer. AEW is also known not to shy away from taking shots at WWE every now and then.
