From acting to pro-wrestling, John Cena has had a work-filled year, courtesy of the Hollywood strikes. While Cena had a busy time making movies in the first half of the year, the said strikes allowed him an unusually long stint with the WWE, that saw him take part in multiple PLEs.

However, even with over five releases this year, Cena’s movies have failed to get the approval of fans. His last three released movies – Hidden Strike, Vacation Friends 2, and Freelance – have all had an underwhelming run at the box office. But that could change very soon, following an update from director James Gunn.

The 57-year-old filmmaker and studio executive hit the headlines earlier this year after he was brought in by WB to reboot the entire DC Universe featuring Dwayne Johnson as well. As Johnson’s passion project, Black Adam tanked at the box office, any future plans with the anti-hero were shelved. That also led to Gunn dividing opinion among fans of the character and the man who played the role.

But he has found more support from John Cena’s fans due to his contribution towards Peacemaker. The role is considered one of Cena’s best works and now his fans have reason to rejoice.

As per Gunn, he’s writing for the second season of Peacemaker. Answering a fan on Threads who enquired about the series, he wrote: “I’m about to go upstairs and continue writing Season 2.” The first season of Peacemaker premiered on HBO Max on January 13, 2022.

The series received both critical and commercial acclaim, something that has been missing from Cena’s films resume of late. Will Peacemaker 2 end the lean patch?
