Not too long ago, Triple H was accused of racial discrimination within the WWE workplace. These allegations were levied at him by a former wrestler, who still appears to be signed to the promotion. After Montell Vontavious Porter, his ex-team member has come out to publicly realise an incident of racism himself.

The main difference between the two incidents is the fact that Shelton Benjamin has admitted that he was a medium to promote racism while he was an asset to WWE 15 years ago.

The Game became in charge of the creatives in the company merely a few years ago. Some typical stereotypical racial gimmicks have been reduced observably, allowing the promotion to be more careful about sensitive topics. However, this wasn’t the case when Vince McMahon handled things in the Stamford-based company.

On 30th June 2009, Shelton Benjamin faced Yoshi Tatsu during a WWE-ECW taping. The clip resurfaced today on its 15th anniversary. Before getting knocked out, Benjamin delivered racial dialogues against Tatsu. Rather than wrestling, the former WWE star stereotypically mocked the Japanese wrestler. He reshared the clip on his timeline to write an apology.

The former Hurt Business member admitted “If I could erase one thing in my career this is it. I’m completely and utterly disgusted by this racist shit. I’m glad the ending was my character getting kicked in the head and losing #racismsucks

The 48-year-old regrets going through with such remarks on a live show and wishes he could erase it by going into the past. Although this is humanly impossible as of now, the realization of going against your principles gives you enough strength to move on from such decisions.

Some of these racially stereotypical gimmicks are still practiced in the promotion. They might be a bit more subtle than before, but a WWE talent also pointed out the same, several weeks ago.

Triple H was previously accused of racism

On social media, several days ago, MVP uploaded an old picture of himself and the men that were included in the stable, Hurt Business. The post was merely a recollection of memories and how the fan-favorite stable was dominating WWE championships at its prime time while the world was still locked in a pandemic. Unfortunately, things did not end well for them, as they eventually disbanded due to the storyline buildup.

However, when MVP uploaded an old picture of the faction on his Instagram, there were several comments about how WWE stole this gimmick to give it to The Bloodline. Among other claims, somebody also implied that the Triple H era is ’emasculating’ African American men in particular. This is where MVP let the comment have its moment by agreeing to what the fan had said. Even though Porter deleted it later on, the claim about Paul Levesque discriminating against other races had already been made.

What do you think is the creative mindset behind racially highlighted dialogues and gimmicks in WWE? What did you make of Shelton Benjamin’s apology for the incident from the past? let us know in the comments section below.
