Hollywood recently underwent drastic changes. With Covid-19, several films ditched the traditional theatre mode, and went with the OTT platforms. The most notable company to do this was, the MCU. They produced web series suited for their OTT platform and also helped in cost cutting and increased engagement.
As per rumors, Disney is planning to do something similar. The famous film franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean, is slated for release. However, fans might be disappointed with the latest update on the series.

Previously, there were rumors that the former WWE Superstar, Dwayne Johnson, was supposed to reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, after Johnny Depp had refused to work with Disney in the future.
Depp stepped away from working with Disney, after Disney removed him from their project due to some allegations against him. With Depp now out of the picture, rumors poured in of Johnson stepping into Jack Sparrow’s boots.
But now latest reports from GiantFreakinRobot suggest something else. As per these new reports, Disney is now planning on reprising the series in an animated version. The franchise had it’s last film in 2017, after which nothing came out. Johnny Depp had become the face of franchise, and recasting him might do more bad than good to Disney.
So, a safer approach would be turning the franchise into an animated one on Disney+, like MCU did with ‘What if…?’ where they recasted Tony Stark’s Iron Man with Mick Wingert. Turning the series into animation, would be a major turning point and could lead to potential new buildups, and cost way lesser than expensive theatrical release.
Although fans might face disappointment with a new Jack Sparrow, however, they need to move on and adapt, because this might be the gate into the future.
