In an interview with WrestleJoy, The Party Peacock mentioned an incident involving his first-ever experience with WWE. While giving a tryout for WWE, he received a ton of negative feedback that left him disheartened.
The 37-year-old star stated that all the coaches in the tryouts took shots at him while only one person, Rhodes, was kind enough not to say anything bad about him. He said, “I think the only person who didn’t say something mean and was just kind of nice was Dusty Rhodes. That was something. That’s kind of nice.”
Castle recalls the incident is from around 2013 or 2014. During that time, he had been getting many offers and bookings. He was still developing the character he plays now inside the ring. Still, he had that charisma inside of him. His qualities and talent paved a way for him to give a tryout at Florida Championship Wrestling.
The AEW and ROH talent was ecstatic to find out about the opportunity he had landed with the sports entertainment giant. WWE tryouts lasted for 3 days. The first two days went smoothly. But the third day came bearing some disappointment for The Party Peacock.
The 3rd day of the tryouts was a promo day. The New York-born wrestler was very confident about his mic skills (all thanks to his radio experience) and his outfit. However, the moment he was done giving his promo, the coaches dragged him down by passing negative comments on his attire and speaking skills.

“They didn’t say one positive thing about the way I talked. They just s**t on me for wearing flip-flops. Seven men that I looked up to, that I grew up watching and respecting, they were just running me down,” Castle added.

As mentioned above, The American Dream was the only one that didn’t say a negative word for the 1-time ROH World Champion. Rhodes’ kindness makes him a very special person. That’s why even a legend like Sting holds so much respect for him.
