John Cena has had a successful transition from WWE to Hollywood. The Champ has slowly moved away from the action in the squared circle to be a star on the big screen.

For many years fans believed that the day would never come when Cena will stop being an active feature of WWE programming.

But his rise as an actor and his own TV series means that the 16-world champion is reduced to less than a part-time role in the promotion he carried for years.

Still, the fans cherish it whenever Cena makes one of his rare appearances for WWE, and looks like they will get to see him sooner than expected.

There have been rumors swirling around of a possible John Cena return at WrestleMania 39 to face someone from the current crop of stars. But now it seems the fans won’t have to wait that long to see Cena back in WWE.

According to a report, the wrestler-turned-actor will make a return to WWE before the end of this year on an episode of SmackDown to close out the year.

John Cena to return on the final episode of SmackDown for 2022

Ever since his career took off in Hollywood, John Cena has made sporadic but memorable appearances for WWE. He came out as the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ at WrestleMania 35 and then wrestled Bray Wyatt in the unique cinematic ‘Firefly Funhouse match’ at WrestleMania 36.

Then, the Franchise Player made a surprise return to the ring last year confronting WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank.

This led to a Summer of Cena, which culminated in a title match against Reigns at SummerSlam. More recently, six months ago, Cena celebrated his 20 years in WWE making an appearance on an episode of RAW.

Now, according to a report in Variety, WWE has booked him to close out the final episode of SmackDown for this year.

The report states that Cena will make his WWE return on the last SmackDown Live episode on 30 December. The show will emanate from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

It will mark the first WWE appearance of the Leader of Cenation since his June return. The report also added that WWE is planning more announcements for that particular edition of SmackDown as they look to close out the year with a bang.

This will be a welcome return for Cena and his fans as the WWE icon has largely been occupied by his acting commitments following his success with DC’s Suicide Squad. The actor earned high praise for his role as the anti-hero Peacemaker in the movie.

Cena also recently starred in the movies ‘The Independent’ and Netflix’s ‘The Bubble’. He is also working on future projects like Fast X and Coyote vs Acme to go along with the shooting of the second season of his hit DC series Peacemaker.
