There is a reason that Dwayne Johnson is able to secure box office numbers at an unbelievable pace. And that is his charisma and authenticity, coupled with his physique and looks. While WWE has been looking for someone similar to the People’s Champion, they have been failing miserably. But their North-American competitor, AEW, seems to have struck gold.

On a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, not only did this AEW star shocked everyone but also channeled his own Rock. The live audience was livid about it and he stood up for the biggest villain, MJF. He left the champion speechless and people were loving it.
But AEW might have done too much of it, as Starks also referenced the ending of the Royal Rumble 2000 match. The same match where The Rock comes out on top and goes on to main event WrestleMania.
Let’s see what fans had to say about it.
Fans compare AEW star with Dwayne Johnson after fiery promo
After his victory in the Battle Royale to choose AEW World Champion, MJF’s next contender, Ricky Starks showed the world why he deserves to challenge the champion. Not only did he leave the champion speechless, but he also showed that he could stand with the biggest stars in the ring.
It’s about time they let the man do his thing like a lil Rock. He can go toe to toe with the big mouth. Rickey is money so run with him @TonyKhan

Time and time again, wrestlers prove that if given a chance, they can channel the best promos by themselves. This is just another example of that technique.
@AEWonTV omg that promo from #rickystarks omg. He's not the Rock, he's not a pebble, but he is the future of #AEW

While fans agree it would be grand to call him the next Rock, he isn’t far away from being one either.
I’m telling you @starkmanjones vs @The_MJF is magic!!! This needs to be cultivated to another level. It shouldn’t be a one off. It should be off some @TheRock @steveaustinBSR stuff. @TonyKhan you have something special there. Don’t mess that up. #AEW

If AEW is able to pull off from the Attitude Era’s biggest rivalry through the modern generation superstars, Tony Khan’s company would start another war with WWE.
This moment just defined a guys whole career. After this segment they may have another Rock brewing on the mic.
MJF, and Ricky Starks. The future legacies of AEW Champions is looking stellar for years to come with these main eventers. Even Hangmans story run nailed it too. https://t.co/S5sJo3IVbC

Not only the Royal Rumble 2000 moment, but Starks also channeled the Brahma Bull in his post-match promo.
It reminds me The Rocks Mic. This guy is amazing.

Starks won over the crowd not just because of his big win but also because he reminded fans of a great time when Rock used to butcher people on the mic.
God damn Ricky Starks just showed up with a promonlike 90s stiffbfrom The Rock before he blew up and took the star spot!#AEW https://t.co/zyVg3g5SDt

The Rock was a nobody before he showed the public that he was entertaining and could put on a show. Starks did the same thing here, and he is getting the praise now.
When he started getting into it I had amazing The Rock flashbacks. Ricky needs to be promoted to the moon.

Tony Khan would be foolish to not boost Starks to the top of the line even if he loses to MJF for the title.
like cmon man, thats just as cool as rock sliding into the people elbow or hangman whoopin ass on horseback, make the right decision! @AEW https://t.co/xuLuMtgheI

That spear was at the perfect moment and looked just right to end any match or segment in a show. Starks is clearly going places after this performance.
