The ongoing war between AEW and WWE is going to continue in 2022. Considering AEW’s success in 2021, one might agree to the fact that Tony Khan and AEW will definitely provide a greater challenge to WWE and Vince McMahon in 2022.
Another person who has an idea about challenging WWE and Vince McMahon is Eric Bischoff, who, with WCW Monday Nitro, clashed against WWF in the late 1990s. Per The Toronto Star, he suggested AEW to go head-to-head with WWE.

Bischoff said, “There is no tactical advantage in completely degrading your competition when it’s clear to your audience that you don’t have the guts to do anything about it. You’re fighting a fight that you are not willing to get in. It’s childish to me.”

Tony Khan responded to Bischoff’s comments, stating that it is not his decision to pick the night that the show is on.
He said, “I don’t care what night the shows are on. It’s really irresponsible for (Bischoff) to say that because I don’t pick what night the show is on. These are time slots that I was assigned.” (H/t: WrestlingInc)
AEW Rampage and WWE SmackDown went head-to-head once in 2021
In October 2021, WWE SmackDown took place on FS1 instead of FOX and had a super-sized edition lasting for 2.5 hours. As a result, a head-to-head clash took place between AEW Rampage and WWE SmackDown during the last thirty minutes of WWE SmackDown.
All the wrestling fans were excited about this head-to-head clash. In the 18-49 demo, Tony Khan and AEW got better ratings than WWE SmackDown during the clash.
The AEW president immediately took to Twitter to share this news with everyone as he was absolutely delighted with the ratings. But that is the only time WWE SmackDown and AEW Rampage went head-to-head.
