He explained his choice further by comparing MJF to Chris Jericho. Booker T drew similarities between the two, explaining how Jericho presented himself as a bigger deal than he was during the initial phase of his career. Similarly, MJF’s portrayal of himself is bigger than what he is.
“Chris Jericho is not that tall of a guy. Back in the day, he wasn’t that big of a guy. Chris Jericho always portrayed himself as 6’5” and 228 pounds… In the ring, he went out there and performed at that level. Looking at a guy like MJF, he’s definitely a guy, you know, he’s got a lot of old school throwback feel to him.”
MJF is paving his path to the top of AEW
MJF rejected a WWE contract before signing with AEW. He believed that WWE would try to change his character, and he wasn’t comfortable with that.
MJF made his AEW debut in 2019 at Double or Nothing, where he battled for the AEW World Championship opportunity. He lasted till the very end with Adam Page but couldn’t outlast the ‘Hangman.’
Since then, MJF has competed against the likes of Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho, Adam Page, and others. His first big rivalry was against Cody Rhodes, where his potential was clearly visible. He excelled in all aspects like mic skills, moves, and charisma.
