WWE and AEW are going back and forth, fist to fist in the battle to get higher ratings. Recently, journalist Bryan Alvarez revealed the winner in this week’s Wednesday night wars.

The ratings war recently got re-ignited when both shows decided to air their PPVs on a similar two-night schedule at the same time. AEW Fyter Fest and NXT: The Great American Bash clashed with each other on 1st  July and 8th July.

The first night went clean to WWE with Sasha Banks and Io Shirai stealing the show and the ratings from AEW.

The second night of the PPV saw a historic main event between Adam Cole and Keith Lee win the overall viewership battle for NXT. However, the key 18-49 demographic went to AEW.

This led to Le Champion Chris Jericho calling himself the Demo God in his segment with the Inner Circle. To their credit, AEW finally defeated NXT in the ratings in every category.

AEW had a total viewership of 788,000 compared to NXT’s 631,000. AEW dominated the 18-49 Demo as well by being placed at 5 as compared to NXT who were miles behind at 49.

AEW has finally beaten WWE, however, it should not come as a surprise. AEW does put up brilliant shows, not to say that NXT doesn’t.

However, there’s one thing that works for the Tony Khan promotion and which is genuinely one of the key factors in AEW being favorites in the Wednesday night wars.

AEW has big and well-known names in the company like Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, Matt Hardy, and more. AEW’s non-wrestling personalities are also well known like Jim Ross, Tazz, Justin Roberts, and even former WWE referee Earl Hebner.

In comparison, NXT may now have a third brand and have a two-hour show on the USA network. However, NXT is still used as a show for the development of new talent.

The odds are definitely stacked in AEW’s favor. If we take NXT as a separate entity, the black and gold brand has nothing to lose.
