Would Jacob Fatu have overshadowed Roman Reigns' return at SummerSlam if not for his injury?

SummerSlam delivered on all its promises. The most talked-about element of the event was Roman Reigns‘ long-awaited comeback. The rumors of the Tribal Chief’s comeback didn’t dampen the surreal nature of his return. Solo Sikoa and the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes had unleashed a barrage of violence at each other, leaving them unable to stand up for the precious moment when Reigns’ music played. Nevertheless, the interference went well with The Tribal Chief attacking Sikoa. However, WWE had planned the segment differently than it had transpired.

Yes, you heard that correctly. The genuine intentions for the Original Tribal Chief’s homecoming were radically altered at the last minute. If you’re not aware, Jacob Fatu fractured his leg during the splash he delivered to Rhodes in the last minutes before Reigns’ return. Because of that, the manner of the former WWE Universal champion’s homecoming had to be changed.

Furthermore, WWE’s actual plan came to light during the Wrestling Observer Newsletter podcast. Reports suggested that the goal was for Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa to double-team the Undisputed Champion, with Roman Reigns returning thereafter to make the save. This would have been the optimal way to usher in Reigns since he would have protected Rhodes in this scenario, proving that the Original Tribal Chief is indeed returning as a babyface.

In the August 4th edition of the podcast it was stated, “The spot was supposed to be them tag-teaming or teaming up on Cody. And then Roman makes a save and it looks better that way. So he just called an audible and put him in the ring and said, do something. So that’s how that ended.”

Not only this but on Bryan and Vinny Show on F4WOnline Youtube Channel the same topic was getting discussed and the same thing was stated there too. It was said, “Well the problem is I mean it’s one thing when someone gets hurt and you got to improvise something, but this is like the key moment of the match yeah the whole point of Roman returning was cuz they were going to double team and kill Cody and now they’re there’s no double team it’s just one on one so it’s Cody and Solo one-on-one and everyone you know by this point it’s very obvious how this is going to end.”

Even though plans were changed at the last minute, the glory of Roman Reigns‘ comeback cannot be denied as evidenced by some social media metrics.

Roman Reigns’ comeback attains almost 100 million views on social media

We all knew that whenever the Original Tribal Chief returned to the WWE, it would be a major event, and the WWE Universe demonstrated its excitement after this return. After 24 hours, all of Roman Reigns’ comeback videos on all WWE platforms and social media have received 96,200,000 views at the time of writing. The massive figure demonstrates the box office appeal of Reigns and his long hiatus only raised the bar in anticipation of his comeback. The predictions appear to have come true, with the Original Tribal Chief officially becoming the largest babyface in the wrestling world. Not only that, but whatever scenario unfolds next will have the WWE Universe on their toes.
