In action movies, the producers hire stunt doubles to shoot dangerous stunts in the movies. Dwayne Johnson has done most of the dangerous stunts himself in his several movies. Being from a wrestling background, it has made it easy for him to perform those stunts.

However, this is not the case always. Sometimes a particular stunt is so extreme that even the wrestling legend is not allowed to perform it. That said, in an old interview once, the wrestler-tuned-actor made a revelation about his stunt work in his 20-year-old box office bomb, The Rundown (aka Welcome to the Jungle), which was released in 2003.

In March 2004, ‘The Great One’ sat down for an interview on a television chat show called Richard & Judy. During the interview, Judy Finnigan asked the former WWE superstar if he performed his stunts in his 2003 movie himself or did he had some help.

Johnson replied, Well, the truth of the matter is, I did absolutely none of that. I love doing my own stunts absolutely. But there were two stunts with the producers and of course, Universal Studios were ‘Absolutely not. No, you cannot.’”

He revealed the studio didn’t let him do the stunts because if he were to get injured, then they would have to cover his insurance. He also revealed while shooting the movie his cousin, who was his stunt double, ended up breaking his ankles. The movie didn’t do great at the box office despite some positive reviews, garnering under $81 million worldwide.

Despite knowing the risk of injuries, Johnson doesn’t shy away from performing his stunts.

In the 2015 San Andreas movie, the director asked ‘The People’s Champion’ to perform his own stunts. The director wanted to give the movie a touch of authenticity and show the actor’s face while he performs the stunt. The stunt was very risky to perform, but Johnson agreed to do it, anyway.

At one point, even the director himself got so scared while ‘The Rock’ was performing a particular stunt. Actors and stuntmen are well protected while shooting a dangerous scene, but the scope for injury still persists. That is why the director was so afraid for Johnson’s safety.
