Since Matt Hardy announced that his contract with AEW was set to expire in March, fans have speculated that he could return to the WWE. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. Fans have been claiming the WWE could pull a WrestleMania 33 and surprise the fans with The Hardy Boyz returning. The WWE dropped another hint at a fan-beloved gimmick to fuel the fire on the go-home episode of WWE SmackDown.

Matt made it clear that his brother’s contract would be expiring later than his due to his injury on AEW. However, after being spotted at the last episode of WWE RAW, fans are almost certain the bridges with WWE have not broken down.

Meek Mill’s WWE SmackDown intro hints at Matt Hardy’s Broken gimmick

The final episode of WWE SmackDown opened with Meek Mill’s new Mania song for the WWE. While the video was great and was hinted at weeks ago, a line by  Michael Cole caught people’s attention. This was a line that  Cole used when The Hardy Boyz returned at Mania 33. While on commentary, Cole was heard saying, “Things are about to be broken. Cole screamed this same line as The Hardyz returned at Mania. Fans were quick to hit social media about this reference.

The Broken Matt Hardy gimmick created in TNA became a sensation in the world of pro wrestling. Fans could not believe the ridiculous nature of the gimmick and storyline. However, it soon became a much-loved storyline in the industry. When The Hardyz returned, the gimmick was mentioned but never fully utilized. Despite spotting the iconic white hair of the gimmick, Matt and Jeff never used the gimmick in the WWE. Could this be changing?

Fans always wanted to see Broken Hardy take on Bray Wyatt. Unfortunately, since his untimely passing, this dream could not be fulfilled. However, the A&E documentary of Wyatt hinted at Bo Dallas’ return to the company to continue Wyatt’s storyline. This could be a great feud to bring back the Broken Hardy gimmick. WWE never said when they planned on returning to Dallas, nor have they confirmed or denied if Matt could be returning. There has been speculation online regarding this storyline if Matt does return.
